Climate Campaign

WHY A COMPETITION AND A CLIMATE CAMPAIGN?

Posters for the Planet is a design competition open to everyone and is the core of a larger media campaign about the climate. This campaign is necessary because while 80 percent of people in the Netherlands are concerned about rising temperatures and decreasing biodiversity, they find it difficult to translate this concern into meaningful contributions to a better environment. Posters for the Planet – a competition for a better world aims to bridge the gap between good intentions and real change. This requires a powerful poster, which you – designer, artist, creative person – will submit. A poster can achieve what words and opinions often can’t: condense the complexity of cause and effect into one strong design. A poster with a strong call to action will be seen throughout the Netherlands in a traveling exhibition in museums and in a media campaign and at various online and physical places throughout the country.

A POSTER THAT SPEAKS TO PEOPLE

Leading behavioural scientists and environmental experts say humans aren’t only the cause of the climate crisis but also its solution. But despite widespread concern about the climate, many people in the Netherlands feel far from part of this solution. Researchers call this gap between wanting and doing the belief-behaviour gap. In this competition, we are looking for posters that help people realise that their contribution does make a difference. Not looking to others, but together with government and businesses, forming the key to the turning point in the climate crisis.

WHAT MESSAGE WILL YOU CONVEY WITH YOUR POSTER?

In this poster competition, every creator is free to choose their own focus on the climate issue: what needs to change, which themes are crucial? Whatever you choose, the goal should be to lead people towards a new movement, where awareness of contributing to a smaller footprint is a natural part of everyday life. At home, at your work, buying goods, travelling, your food, mobility and leisure time. What message do you want to convey with your poster? We humans can contribute much more effectively than we think. You can also choose to address politics, government, professional groups, companies, institutions and scientists with your poster.
Of course, much has already been said on this topic, and countless images have been published. Yet, in this competition, we ask everyone to think about a powerful poster that can’t be ignored. Join in. Design a poster. Help the world.
